Welcome to Mike & Shona's Baby Boomer's Community Site
What's this site all about?

This site is a place for Baby Boomers (and also people who want to communicate with Baby Boomers) to share information that has been accumulated in their lifetime.

Perhaps there's no one who wants any of the information in particular. There may however be some amusement or intrigue in the anecdotal commentary at least?

The focus of the site is friendship. Anyone who is friendly and supportive is welcome to join and contribute.

A "Baby Boomer" is someone who was born between 1946 and 1964. (The highest rate of live births on record). The generation that followed the Baby Boomers is popularly called "Generation X" or the "Me Generation" by the media. It has various definitions of the span of years, but is basically from 1965 through to about 1980. Then comes the "Echo Boomers" generation, from the early 1980's through to about 1994. (The second highest rate of live births on record).

You can see various parts of this site without being a member (for free). Once you have joined, the sections of the site you access are controlled by groups. If you want to access more sections of the site, join the groups which are of interest.

How to make a CD card

Crafting Mike gave me a big bundle of CDs that he no longer had any use for and I started to have thoughts on how to use them in a crafty way.

This is how I used a single Cd to make a card.

Keeping mobile when your mechanicals slow down

Health Have you ever thought that as you get older you will just get frail and will no longer be able to go the places that you love? Trips to the beach or down some rutted pathway through the woods no longer a possibility?

Think again!

Buying a Jayco

Caravanning

Mike & Shona's first caravan.

When we were looking to buy our first van we started with a short list of what it needed to have. The initial list contained things like:

  • separate shower compartment from toilet so there was no need to dry anything down after a shower, and there would be no wet footprints trekked through the van.
  • island bed so neither of us had to climb to get in or out (Shona has a problem with her back, and I have a problem when I take my prosthetic leg off.)
  • usable sized kitchen area
  • airy, open feel to avoid any claustrophobic feel from long stretches of being stuck inside due to wet weather in Victoria

The basics in choosing a caravan and tow vehicle

Caravanning When we first started in caravanning, we didn't know what we didn't know.

Surely it was as simple as buying a big white box with the level of fittings and features you thought you needed, bolting it onto the back of the car and heading off?

We were just a bit ignorant, but perhaps just like many others.

This content is to assist with some of the more basic questions and answers that you might have about starting off in caravanning.

I originally wrote it and posted it for Australian Caravanning.

Silverton

Local Travel What an eye opener it was to visit Silverton.

26 kilometres west of Broken Hill, and it seems like you do a time shift on that journey!

The terrain is lots of nothingness:

But the "middle" of town has a building here and there, a pub, and one of the cars used in the film Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome which was filmed around the region is still parked outside.

Life imitating art - Formative years!

People Another cartoon strip had me intrigued when I was growing up - The Peanuts.

Charlie Brown seemd to be every bit as successful in his endeavours as I did. He was honest and tried hard, it's just that everything seemed to not go to plan with him.
